Both the 2019 Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz GLE are on the tips of everyone’s tongues when talking about luxury SUVs. They both have a lot going for them, including multiple strong powertrains and beautiful interior designs. However, when push comes to shove, the Porsche Cayenne stands out with its stellar handling, beefy towing capacity, and voice control system.
When it comes to handling, the Porsche Cayenne is challenging to beat. Crossover SUVs aren’t exactly known for having superb handling capabilities, but the Cayenne breaks the mold. This vehicle has remarkable balance and control. You can pick any curve to take it through without experiencing any body roll. The GLE, however, starts to show body roll when you push the vehicle on high-speed roads. Also, the GLE’s suspension feels slightly too firm while the Cayenne’s feels just right.
It might seem like a bit of a novelty, but voice control tends to be really great or pretty obnoxious. The Cayenne has a great voice control system that operates with efficiency. It is responsive to natural speech patterns, unlike the GLE. The GLE’s system tends to lag, and it struggles to recognize text inputs from the vehicle’s touchpad.
When it comes to towing, the Cayenne edges out a lot of the competition. It is rated for 7,713 pounds, which certainly tops the GLE’s 7,200 (which also requires you to opt-in for the Class III trailer hitch). Note that the hitch package on the Cayenne comes with pre-wiring for whichever electronic brake controller you want as well as a seven-pin wiring socket. Overall, for a turbocharged V6 in this class, the Cayenne’s towing capacity is pretty superb.
